Raymond John Varley

I was fortunate to work with Ray at Sons of Gwalia in the early 2000’s. Ray would come to site often. His visits were full of fabulous anecdotes, knowledge and wisdom, all which we greatly received. He taught us all so much!!!Rest in Peace Ray! You were one in a million and I consider myself blessed to have known you and have been mentored by you.Sending heartfelt condolences to his family.

We were very saddened to hear that my old school chum, Ray, had has died. We went to school together in Chelmsford (England) during the 1960s until Ray emigrated to Tasmania with his father in about 1964. Whilst at school we shared many interests and particularly were keen motorcyclists - Ray was very proud of his Triumph Tiger Cup. After Ray emigrated we lost touch for many years until the advent of Friends Reunited enabled us and a number of other school friends to re-establish contact in 2002. Since then, despite the fact that Ray lived in Perth, Australia and we live in England we have met up on numerous occaisions. Ray was a really nice guy with a wry sense of humour and was full of life. It was a pleasure to have counted him as a friend and our thoughts are with Linda, Jane, Kate, Matthew and the rest of the family at this sad time. Bob and Angela Carter
